Magh Snan is one of the many holy bathing ritual in the Magh month. This tradition has been followed since hundreds of years according to Hindu calendar. It is also popular by the name Mini Kumbh Mela. The bath can be taken within the period of 45 days according to the calendar. It begins at Paush Poornima and ends at Maha Shivratri. It comes once in 12 years. It is also called Mauni Amavasaya. It is known as the day of Manu Rishi. This day is consider to be the beginning of the universe. The place has its own significance as the Amrit was dropped during the samunder manthan between Gods and devils.
Pooja Vidhi: The bathe should be taken during sunrise that is when the Sun is on its peak. Apart from the point of contact other rivers are Narmada, Godavri, Brahmaputra, Krishna and Cavery. The deity to be worship on this day are Lord Shiva, Surya Bhagwan, Saraswati and Lord Vishnu. Maun vrat should be performed on this day which means to control all your senses. It may vary according to the person capability as like one day or week or month or year. Hawans or donations can be the other options which exist on this day. Donations are in the form of giving cows, gold, clothes, bed and other useful things. Performing of all the activates on single day will give you the fruits equal to hundred thousand Rajasuya Yagya or Ashwamedha Yagya.
If any person is not able to conduct the written activities then he can perform it at home by compelting all the chores early in the morning and take bath and try to connect with god which is the whole theme of the day. After this Brahma Dev worshipping and Jaap of Gayatri mantra turns out to be auspicious.
Celebrated in: It is mainly conducted in Allahabad and other parts of North India like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana where the holy three rivers comes in contact with each other i.e. Ganga, Yamuna and Sarswati.
